Reading Glasses FAQs

Why do I need reading glasses?

To determine whether you need reading glasses, you might think about the following questions.

Having a hard time reading smaller words? Have headaches while reading? Eye strain after reading? Can't read until you put the book far away? Are you over 40 years old?

One or two of these questions may not necessarily mean that you need reading glasses, but if the answer to all of these questions is yes, reading glasses are something to consider.

How do you know what strength reading glasses to get?

Generally, you can go to your doctor to have your prescription measured and they will give you the exact strength prescription. Of course, you can also get it roughly based on the following lines:
Age 40 – 44, power +0.75 to +1.00
Age 45 – 49, power +1.00 to +1.50
Age 50 – 54, power +1.50 to +2.00
Age 55 – 59, power +2.00 to +2.25
Age 60 – 65, power +2.25 to +2.50
